iKnow is a flash-based language learning tool from Cerego in Tokyo. Initially targetted at Japanese students of English, an English-language version has recently been launched. It’s free (amazingly), and it’s easy and fun to use (with a lot of wii-esque sounds that make you feel happy when you get something right). The flash tool itself is great but, more importantly, the language-aquisition techniques they’re applying behind the scenes actually seem to work.

New items are introduced as you build in capability (and confidence), and the software is smart enough to identify and help improve weaknesses. There’s a bunch of pre-defined courses you can take, but importantly you’re able to create your own course with custom items (and view your friend’s, of course).
